Duality Collapsed

I’ve been practicing mettā for almost three years now. In this time many things happened as a result of my spiritual practice. Experiences of bliss, calmness and expanded awareness of reality to name a few. These were all good and beneficial for my spiritual growth. They motivated me to pursue mettā further.

During the last Summer season (2025), I began to experience the non-dual experience of reality and the mitigation of the ego. My identification with the ego—which is based on the mind-body complex—kind of unnoticeably blended with the reality and what was left was pure awareness. Of course, I didn’t completely eradicated my ego; after a prolonged practice of mettā it looseness it and I’m feel freer and more relaxed.

By non-dual experience of reality I mean oneness of phenomena. I was watching the old video of Miles Davis playing So What. What I saw was the absence of personality—the musicians playing were kind of the same thing as everything else. The personality didn’t stand up; it was all one.

This experience of oneness was so much freer of suffering. I think duality brings a kind of suffering in the mind; in oneness you are free from subject-object duality and therefore it’s easier to watch and experience reality. My mentor told me that this experience is not s state of being but something we should constantly strive for, vigilantly.
